Entry Requirements into University of Education Winneba (UEW) Postgraduate Sandwich Programmes for the 2025/2026 Academic Year.

1. Master of Arts (M.A.) Programmes

  • Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree (minimum Second Class Lower Division) in a relevant field from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) or a recognized institution. Degrees may include:
    • With Education component (e.g., B.Ed.)
    • Without Education component (e.g., B.A., B.Sc.)
  • Third Class graduates may be considered upon successful completion of:
    • An entrance examination
    • An admission interview

2. Master of Science (M.Sc.) Programmes

  • Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree (minimum Second Class Lower Division) from a recognized university in any discipline.
  • Third Class degree holders may be considered if they:
    • Have substantial work or professional experience, and
    • Pass an entrance exam and interview

M.Sc. in Development Finance (Sandwich & Weekend Mode – 1 Year)

  • Open to applicants from any academic discipline with a minimum Second Class Lower Division
  • Third Class applicants require substantial professional experience

3. Master of Education (M.Ed.) Programmes

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s degree (minimum Second Class Lower Division) in a relevant field from a Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) accredited institution.
  • Applicants from non-Education disciplines must first obtain a:
    • Diploma in Education
    • Postgraduate Diploma in Education, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Third Class or Pass degree holders, with or without Education component, must:
    • Sit for an entrance examination, and
    • Pass an admission interview

Note: Sandwich M.Ed. programmes last one academic year (two sessions). Students must complete a dissertation, and fees are paid per session.

4. International Applicants

  • Must have a baccalaureate degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 from an accredited 4-year institution in:
    • Counselling Psychology or a related field (e.g., Psychology, Guidance & Counselling, Social Work, Nursing)
  • Must demonstrate English proficiency via:
    • Previous instruction in English, or
    • TOEFL score ≥86, or
    • IELTS score ≥6.5
  • Must be computer literate and able to use Microsoft Office and Google applications.
  • Must pass a digital interview.

5. Master of Business Administration (MBA) – Weekend Mode (2 Years)

  • Applicants must have:
    • A Bachelor’s degree (minimum Second Class Division) in a related field from a recognized university, OR
    • A Third Class degree with at least 5 years’ relevant work experience (requires passing an entrance exam and interview), OR
    • Membership in a recognized professional accounting body under IFAC (e.g., ACCA, ICAG, CIMA, ICAEW)
  • All applicants must also have at least one year of relevant professional experience
  • Students are required to complete a dissertation

6. M.A. in Communication & Media Studies (Weekend and Regular Modes)

  • A Bachelor’s degree (minimum Second Class Lower Division) from any discipline is required
  • Students who attain a GPA of 3.0 or higher during M.A. coursework may apply internally for a 1-year M.Phil. top-up
  • Programme duration: 1 year, including a dissertation

7. Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching & Learning in Higher Education (PGDTLHE) – Weekend Mode

  • Open to:
    • New lecturers in tertiary institutions without formal training in teaching
    • Master’s or Doctorate degree holders seeking to teach in tertiary institutions

8. Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Distance Mode)

  • Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university
  • Duration: 1 year, includes completion of a dissertation

9. M.Ed. in Teaching English as a Second Language (T.E.S.L.)

  • Applicants must have:
    • A good first degree (minimum Second Class Lower) in English Language, OR
    • A Bachelor’s degree in any field, but must currently teach English

10. M.Ed. Programmes by CODEL – Distance Mode

  • Applicants must have:
    • A Bachelor’s degree with Education component in the relevant field, OR
    • A B.A./B.Sc. degree without Education, plus a Diploma or Postgraduate Diploma in Education
  • Subject-specific requirements may apply

11. M.Ed. Programmes by ITECPD – Distance Mode

  • Applicants must have one of the following:
    • A Bachelor’s degree with Education component in the subject area and at least 2 years of teaching experience
    • A Bachelor’s degree in a subject-specific area, plus a Postgraduate Diploma/Certificate in Education
  • These programmes train graduates to serve as Mentors, Counselling Psychologists, Administrators, and Education Leaders
  • Duration: 1 year
