
University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Distance Programmes and their entry requirements for the 2025/2026 Academic Year.
The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) invites applications from qualified individuals for admission into its Distance Education programmes for the 2025/2026 academic year. Both Mature and Direct/Post-Diploma applicants are welcome to apply.
Available Programmes and Entry Requirements
1. B.Ed. in Basic Education (Junior High School Option)
- Entry requirements are the same as for the B.Ed. Basic Education (Upper Primary Option).
2. B.Ed. in Basic Education (Early Grade Option)
- Entry requirements are the same as items (i) to (iii) of the requirements for the 4-Year B.Ed. Basic Education (Upper Primary Option).
- Applicants with a Diploma in Early Childhood Education (DECE) from a recognized institution will be admitted to Level 300 (2 years of study).
3. B.A. in English Language Education
a) WASSCE Holders:
- Credit passes (A1–C6) in six subjects, comprising:
- Three Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science or Social Studies
- Three Electives including Literature-in-English
b) SSSCE Holders:
- Credit passes (A–D) in six subjects, comprising:
- Three Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science or Social Studies
- Three Electives including Literature-in-English
c) Tertiary Diploma Holders:
- Must hold a diploma from a recognized institution (excluding DBS).
- Must be 25 years or older (see ‘Definition of Terms’).
4. B.Sc. in Mathematics Education
a) WASSCE Holders:
- Six credits including:
- Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science
- Electives: Three from General Science or Business, including Elective Mathematics
b) SSSCE Holders:
- Six credits including:
- Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science
- Electives: Three from General Science or Business, including Elective Mathematics
- Must have an aggregate of 24 or better
c) Tertiary Diploma Holders:
- Diploma from a recognized institution (excluding DBS) is accepted
d) Mature Applicants:
- Must be 25 years or older (see ‘Definition of Terms’)
5. B.A. in Social Studies Education
a) WASSCE Holders:
- Six credits including:
- Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science or Social Studies
- Electives: Three subjects, including two of the following: Geography, Economics, History, Government, CRS/IRS
b) SSSCE Holders:
- Same structure as WASSCE above, with grades A–D
c) Tertiary Diploma Holders:
- Diploma from a recognized institution (excluding DBS) is accepted
d) Mature Applicants:
- Must be 25 years or older
6. BBA in Accounting Studies
a) WASSCE Holders:
- Six credits including:
- Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science or Social Studies
- Electives: Three relevant Business electives (e.g. Financial Accounting, Business Management, Elective Mathematics, etc.)
b) SSSCE Holders:
- Same structure as WASSCE with grades A–D
c) Mature Applicants:
- Must be 25 years or older
d) Diploma Holders (Post-Diploma Applicants):
- Diploma in Accounting Studies (UEW or recognized university): placed at Level 300
- HND in Accountancy (2nd Class Lower or better): placed at Level 300
Note: Diploma in Business Studies (DBS) holders are not eligible for this programme.
7. BBA in Human Resource Management
a) WASSCE Holders:
- Six credits including:
- Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science or Social Studies
- Electives: Three subjects with an aggregate of 36 or better
b) SSSCE Holders:
- Same structure with grades A–D and an aggregate of 24 or better
c) Mature Applicants:
- Must be 25 years or older
d) Diploma Holders (Post-Diploma Applicants):
- Diploma in Management Studies (UEW or equivalent): placed at Level 300
- HND holders (HR, Secretaryship, Accountancy, Marketing, etc. – with 2nd Class Lower or better): placed at Level 300
- Tertiary Diploma holders (not listed above): placed at Level 200 (3 years of study)
Note: Diploma in Business Studies (DBS) is not accepted for this programme.
Important Notes
- Mature applicants must be 25 years or older and will be required to meet specific criteria outlined under UEW’s “Definition of Terms”.
- Diploma in Business Studies (DBS) alone is not accepted for any of the above programmes.
